Bolt breaks 10 seconds in 100 meter race for 1st time in 2014 to win event in Warsaw

Usain-Bolt

WARSAW, Poland _ Usain Bolt ran a 100-meter race in under 10 seconds for the first time this year, clocking 9.98 for a comfortable victory at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial on Saturday.

Bolt’s season has been disrupted by a foot injury and he used the minor meet, held under a roof at Warsaw’s National Stadium, as a warmup for the Diamond League meeting in Zurich on Thursday, his first major European event of 2014.

His only previous races this year were the 4×100 relay with Jamaica at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last month, and an exhibition race in Rio de Janeiro last weekend which he won in 10.06.

On Saturday, he was 0.35 seconds ahead of fellow Jamaican Sheldon Mitchell, who finished second.
