CCIC and Regional Partners Meet to Discuss Climate Change
The Caribbean Climate Innovation Centre (CCIC), operating out of the Scientific Research Council (SRC), will be meeting with key regional and international partners in Montego Bay from June 1 to 2, to discuss new inititatives to mitigate climate change across the region.
Project Manager at the CCIC, Carlington Burrel, told JIS News that one of the functions of the CCIC is to assist in developing entrepreneurs who will be able to find solutions to mitigate climate change, citing the damage done recently by heavy rainfall.
He indicated that these happenings severely impact a country’s agricultural and tourism sectors and also cause significant financial losses through infrastructural damage.
Key topics on the meeting agenda include climate-change mitigation and adaptation across the region; and upcoming plans for the CCIC. Formation of key partnerships with financiers to assist with funding entrepreneurs in the clean energy business will also take place.
Also to be discussed is the expansion of the Entrepreneurship Programme for Innovation in the Caribbean (EPIC).
The meeting will include members from the CCIC, World Bank, Government of Canada, Consortium Members – SRC and Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI), and other top regional partners, including the Caribbean Development Bank.
The meeting is being held in Jamaica for the first time.
The CCIC is a consortium under the SRC and CARIRI in Trinidad, with member representatives in all CARICOM countries, with the exception of Haiti.
It provides business education to clean technology entrepreneurs in five thematic areas, including renewable energy, water/waste management, sustainable agribusiness, resource use and efficiency, and energy efficiency.
