Coors Light® Celebrates 31 Years Of Support For Historically Black Colleges And Universities

Coors Light kicks-off 2017 football season with hip-hop superstar T.I. and scholarships at HBCU Classics

CHICAGOSept. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Coors Light is excited to announce that it will once again be a proud sponsor of historically black college and university (HBCU) Football Classic season. Coors Light will create unique fan experiences at four of the premiere HBCU football classics in the country.  Coors Light will give scholarship donations to participating schools, and host exclusive tailgates and post-game events for alumni in the host cities.

Coors Light has been an advocate for the HBCU community for more than 30 years, providing resources and support to these institutions of higher learning. Participating schools will be given $10,000 scholarships ($80,000 in total) to award to juniors and seniors who are 21 years of age and older.   In the last decade alone, the brand has invested more than $1 million help students climb on and achieve their educational dreams.

“HBCUs showcase the epitome of the Coors Light mantra of ‘Climb on.’  The students are resilient, resourceful and dedicated,” said Daniel Ware, associate marketing manager for Coors Light and alumnus of Florida A&M University.  “We’re honored that our partnership celebrates the heritage and fun culture of HBCU football but we’re also proud to be making a difference in the lives of our next generation of leaders.”

The 2017 Coors Light HBCU Football Classic schedule:

  • Southern Heritage Classic (Memphis, TN) – Sept. 9
  • Magic City Classic (Birmingham, AL) – Oct. 28
  • Florida Classic (Orlando, FL) – Nov. 18
  • Bayou Classic (New Orleans, LA) – Nov. 25

Coors Light will host exclusive tailgates and post-game experiences at all four HBCU football classics featuring appearances by superstar hip-hop recording artist T.I. and music by national deejay and syndicated radio host, DJ Envy. These events are designed as VIP spaces where alumni 21 and older can reconnect over an ice-cold Coors Light while living out the pride and tradition of the HBCU experience. Access to the tailgate and post-game event are complimentary to eligible consumers who participate in the Coors Light XP promotion and qualify for access. Participation is through the new Coors Light XP mobile application, available for free in the App Store and Google Play.
