Drake on “Jimmy Fallon”

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon - Season 5

The former “Degrassi: The Next Generation” star spent his childhood in front of the cameras and has gotten used to the red light as one of the world’s biggest rap stars. But it wasn’t until he sat down for a table read in advance of tomorrow night’s “Saturday Night Live” appearance that the”saddest boy in all of Canada” experienced the peak of his professional life.

“Yesterday I did the read-through and it was like probably one of the best days of my life,” he said during an appearance on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” on Thursday.

But that’s not all we learned about Drizzy during his sit-down with Fallon. Here are four other surprises he served up:

So Fresh And So Clean, Clean
He revealed that “SNL” boss Lorne Michaels suggested that he be clean-shaven for his stint as musical guest and host on the show, something Drake realized he hadn’t done since his “Degrassi” days. “I’m walking down the hallway and some guy in passing was like, ‘We like our clean-shaven boys here,’ and I was like, ‘That’s probably not the best welcome [to “SNL”].’ ”

His First Time And Why It Was The Worst
Drake talked about his first audition for “Degrassi” and explained how he prepared in an unconventional way. “It was the first audition I went on, but it was also the day that I got accepted by these real cool Jewish kids at school,” he said of finally getting invited over to Daniel Pearlman’s house. And it was the first time he smoked pot, so that was not his best choice.

“That was my first time,” he said. “I started really getting paranoid. I thought I had completely ruined my life. I was splashing water on my face constantly, it was like a Clearasil commercial.” And though he was devastated by his boneheaded choice (and didn’t dare tell his mom), he still got the gig as Jimmy Brooks. Fallon then flashed a cast photo from the era, and both men had a laugh over Drizzy’s not-so-fly gear.

He Never Performs High
These days, though, Drake said he keeps his work very separate from his extracurricular party activities. “I don’t understand people that can actually go out onstage under the influence of anything really,” he said. “I have to be straight and clear-minded.”

He Sucks At Beer Hockey
Sure, Drake is Canadian and he loves beer, but when Fallon challenged him to a round of beer hockey, well, let’s just say that Drizzy needs to work on his stroke. “You’re from Canada, you have to win at hockey!” Fallon taunted after going up 2-0 in the peer pong/air hockey hybrid contest.
