Last Sunday for 2013

The National Gallery of Jamaica’s Last Sunday programme for 2013 closes on December 29, running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view the Explorations II: Religion and Spirituality exhibition, which features 68 works from the National Art Collection and explores the role of religion and spirituality in Jamaican culture and history. The artists featured include Osmond Watson, Edna Manley, Mallica ‘Kapo’ Reynolds, Carl Abrahams, Everald and Clinton Brown, Renee Cox, Ebony G. Patterson, Gloria Escoffery, Norma Rodney-Harrack and Omari Ra.

The featured performance will be by Nexus Performing Arts Company and will start at 1:30 p.m. Admission is be free and free guided tours and gallery-based children’s activities will be offered. The gift and coffee shop will be open for business and contributions to the donations box are welcome.

Cream of the Crop in Ochi

Tomorrow Ocho Rios, St Ann, will host Cream of the Crop at the Cruise ShipPier.

Jah Cure, Romain Virgo, I-Octane, Mavado and Chronixx are the headlining acts. Supporting acts include Kabaka Pyramid, Dre Island, Kelissa, Keznandi, Jah Bouks, Iba Mahr and Nature.

Ainsworth ‘Big A’ Higgins, co-promoter of the event, said “As the name suggests, this show is designed to showcase the artistes who are among the best and at the top of their game.”

In recent years, a number of well-known events have not been held at this time, leaving a void in Ocho Rios entertainment calendar.

Britney starts two-year residency today

Perfume singer Britney Spears is set to kick off her two-year Las Vegas residency, Britney: Piece of Me in the Planet Hollywood Resort Hotel, Las Vegas, today. She can’t wait for New Year’s Eve, even though she will be working.
