Grange to Jackson: You’re on the podium!

Shericka-Jackson-2016Rio de Janeiro, August 15, 2016 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has congratulated Jamaica’s Sherika Jackson who took the bronze medal in the women’s 400 metres at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Monday evening.

“Congratulations Sherika, you’re on the podium. You’ve medalled. Jamaica is proud of you!,” said the Minister.

Jackson clocked 49.85 seconds to finish behind Shaunae Miller (49.44) of the Bahamas and Alyson Felix (49.51) of the United States.

The other Jamaican in the race, Stephenie Ann McPherson, finished 6th in a time of 50.97 seconds.

The Minister said: “I want to say to Stephenie Ann, you are in the top eight in the world, so don’t feel badly. We are just so happy that you all made it to Rio. It means that you are among the best in the world. Jamaica is proud of you and we will celebrate all of you when we get back home.”

Sport Commentary: Another medal for Jamaica. We little but we tallawah. For our size we are the greatest. So far our medal tally is four (4) … and hopefully more to come.
