PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti  (AP) _ The president of the Inter-American Development Bank is in Haiti‘s capital visiting the first batch of new or remodeled schools to replace those demolished in the devastating 2010 earthquake.

On Tuesday, Luis Alberto Moreno toured three schools, including the Elie Dubois School that was co-financed by the IDB and the Barefoot non-profit founded by Colombian pop star Shakira.

Moreno says the IDB has “a very big commitment to this country.”

The bank says it is on track to see over 100 Haitian schools built over the next three years, including 57 by the end of this year.

School construction was halted in Haiti from June 2012 to July 2014 to ensure quality of construction. Haiti‘s Fund for Economic and Social Assistance hired more engineers to review designs and train builders.
