ELOY, Ariz. (AP) _ John Legend and Colombian musician Juanes (WAH’-nes) played a show yesterday for people who they were not sure could even hear them. They played outside a jail in Eloy, Arizona, where undocumented immigrants were being held. Legend and Juanes performed on a flatbed truck and sang two of their own songs and one song together, Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song.” Their intention was for the detainees to hear the music. However, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement it kept inmates in their cells because of concerns “an unsanctioned concert” within view of the recreation yard might provoke a disturbance. Legend told the crowd of about 100 outside the jail that they were there to bear witness to what’s happening so they can tell the world about it. Legend and Juanes toured the facility before the concert and spoke to the detainees.
