More Marley revelations

Revelation Part 11: The Fruit of Life, the fourth studio album from Stephen Marley, is expected to be out in August.

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, Marley said its theme is similar to his previous set, Revelation Part I: The Root of Life, which was released in 2011.

That effort earned him a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2012.

“We are just putting a few finishing touches on the new album now. Revelation Part II: The Fruit Of Life is a continuation of Revelation Part I: The Root of Life. Part I focused on real roots music and Part II will expand on the roots and shares its fruits,” the 43-year-old singer/songwriter explained.

On ‘Revelation Part I’, Marley did songs with his brothers Damian and Ziggy, as well as Capleton and Spragga Benz. This time around, he explores other sounds.

“Reggae’s strong foundation has influenced many other genres over the years, including hip hop, dub, punk and more. Part II is the result of this influence and how together they make perfect sense,” he said. “I have many featured artistes on the album, from hip hop to reggae.”

Marley has previously collaborated with diverse acts including neo-soul singer Erykah Badu, Guyanese pop singer Melanie Fiona and the rapper Nas.

He recently recorded Ghetto Youth, a song (and video) with Bounty Killer and Cobra. It is a teaser to Revelation Part II.

“The concept is to show the truth about many ghetto youths’ reality. The Warlord (Bounty Killer) and Cobra are real voices of the ghetto and know first-hand about this struggle. Their perspective is real,” said Marley. “I hope this song and video make us question what we need to do to break the cycle to make sure our kids get a shot at life.”

Stephen Marley is scheduled to kick off a six-week tour of the United States and Europe on August 1, at Reggae On The River in Piercy, northern California.
