News Flash: Lady Cooke Dead at 100

The widow of former Governor General died today at 100.  Portia Simpson Miller, former PM tweeted the sad news to the world.

Lady Cooke stood by her husband through thick and thin and in my view was a “model of dignity”.

Jamaica House confirmed the news tweeted by Portia Simpson Miller.  Lady Ivy Cooke died at Andrew’s Memorial Hospital, an Adventist health facility this evening … Monday June 5, 2017

PM Holness hailed Lady Ivy Cooke as an  “outstanding educator”  Born June 1916.

Sterling Service

In July 2014 her husband former GG died at 98. Lady Ivy Cooke stood by her husband who held the highest ceremonial office in our land.  Jamaica is the poorer for Lady Ivy Cooke’s passing.
Sir Howard Cooke served as GG for 16 years from 1991. They gave sterling service to our nation.

We express our sympathy to her family and in particular daughter in-law Mrs. Heather Heather Cooke, who is Clerk to the Houses of Parliament.
