NSWMA Mess Is Not Garbage … 10 Years No Audit … Millions Not Accounted For … Poor Garbage Collection …

A report by the Office of the Public Defender uncovered some glaring atrocities in this cesspool like department of mismanagement at the NSWMA.

Possibly reacting to this Public Defender’s Report the Portfolio minister has spoken.

Desmond McKenzie, Local Government Minister recently proposed this J10 million Jamaican dollars forensic audit. Why throw good cash to do garbage /report/audit? Just put the proper checks and balances in place and move forward.

Dennis Chung, recently reappointed chairman of the NSWMA mentioned that the proposed forensic audit could cost in the region of J$10 mil.

Background

There was a fire at the NSWMA that destroyed the third floor of the building … all accounting records were said to have been destroyed. Reports are that even computers were damaged … stolen or mysteriously disappeared. It was quite a mess as you can imagine. A very dark chapter in the wake of this tragedy.

Water damage could have caused further damage while outing the fire and cooling down exercises.

This government department seem to have been used as a cash cow for all and sundry. We will say no more at this point.

Privatisation

It appears to us that the NSWMA is a prime candidate for privatisation. It is an insult to citizens for this apparent “rape” to continue. Sorry we cannot find stronger language.

NSWMA is supposed to be a regulator yet it runs garbage disposal sites… the largest in the island is in Kingston (Riverton Dump) and associated sites in St. Ann and Montego Bay (Retirement Dump).

NSWMA Needs A Clean Up

This is ChikV time so you will get much support to clean up the garbage and please start at the National Solid Waste Authority (NSWMA).

The National Solid Waste Management Agency has been in the news regarding operating with a perennial loose management system, absolutely appalling is their non existent counting system best described as a cesspool of corruption. This description would be most appropriate to say the least. We need to be honest, and not falsely make comments which could remotely be bordering on being complimentary … in fact this is the only way to describe this entity … a shameful way of lack of accountability and transparency.

Do think carefully before spending J$10 million to do forensic audit. What do you think?
