O’Dayne Richards Wins Gold in shot put at the 2014 Common Wealth Games in Glasgow

54515odaynerichardsb20140728rmJamaican O’Dayne Richards produced a Games Record of 21.61 metres in the men’s shot put final to win the country’s first medal in track and field at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland a short while ago.

The 25-year-old Richards turned back the challenge of the pre-event favourite Tom Walsh of New Zealand who did 21.19 metres.

Walsh, 22, had qualified for the final with a Game Record of 21.24 metres.

Canadian Tim Nedow won the bronze medal with an effort of 20.59 metres.

The other Jamaican qualifier Raymond Brown finished eighth with a throw of 18.65 metres.
