PAAC to hear from Indecom

Terrence Williams, INDECOM CommissionerThe Public Accounts is a Parliamentary Committee that examines public bodies and look into their annual reports and enquire into the general management or God forbid mismanagement of their respective organization (s). The PAAC Committee is chaired by a opposition parliamentarian. It is an in-depth sit down interview.

INDECOM

The Independent Commission On Investigations (INDECOM) has been in the news lately
as in a visit before the said House Committee last week or so the Deputy Commissioner Of Police (DCP) Glenmore Hinds, in charge of crime at the High Command of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). DCP Hinds “brashly” uttered a broadside against Commissioner Terrence Williams, head of INDECOM. Hinds said then before the Committee inter alia that the JCF has no problem with INDECOM but instead the Commissioner Williams. DCP Hinds accused Williams of vetoing decisions arrived at when the parties meet at their scheduled monthly meetings.

In response Deputy INDECOM Commish Campbell has defended Williams dismissing DCP Hinds’ verbal assault on Commissioner Terrence Williams.

MOU

There has been a long overdue Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) negotiated between the two bodies which is yet to be signed. It is intended to improve relations between the JCF & INDECOM.

It is not immediately clear if Williams the INDECOM head, will address negative comments of him by DCP Hinds.

Will there be fireworks tomorrow before the PAC? The TV cameras will be there and as a lot is at stake. We hope there will be civility in the wake of apparent provocation and insult on INDECOM.

Many police officers, mainly the rogue ones, hate INDECOM for trying to keep them in check by promoting “respect for life.”

Police extrajudicial killings have halved since INDECOM was established about 2010 as gleaned from official reports tabled in Parliament (by INDECOM).
