Perspective: Withdraw the Budget

Withdraw It
Dr. Peter Phillips said Hon Audley Shaw’s budget will further marginalise the working poor in Jamaica. Phillips states that 320,000 will benefit from PATH, (Social Assistance), but The (PIOJ) Planning Institute Of Jamaica numbers suggest 540,000 instead will fall below the Poverty line.  Phillips was making his contribution as Opposition Spokesman (PNP) in Parliament today in the 2017-18 Budget Debate
These are the working poor.  Indirect tax will not help this class of people who fall below the benefit level anyway.
Flayval Williams State Minister of Finance rejects Phillips’ call to withdraw the budget.  She said the budget as presented is “credible”  and will not be modified as it is the best at this time.   Asked about the public outcry on the Health Insurance premium increase, she was unmoved.
