GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands _ Police say nearly two dozen packages of cocaine have washed up on a beach in the Cayman Islands. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said Tuesday that a bag containing 23 packages of cocaine was spotted by residents along the southeast coast of Grand Cayman island. Police estimated the value of the recovered drugs at roughly $425,000. In a statement, police in the tiny British Caribbean territory said it is “not unusual to see drugs wash ashore in the Cayman Islands from time to time.” They praised residents for reporting the find. The Cayman Islands and other Caribbean countries and territories are vulnerable as drug transshipment points located along maritime smuggling routes between South America and North America.
