Tasha T promotes literacy

On Saturday March 26, 2016, International Recording Reggae Artiste and Musical Ambassador of Read Across Jamaica (RAJ), Tasha T, will be reading on stage with Girl Scouts Troup #3767 at the Montgomery County Library in Gaithersburg, Maryland, to help them achieve their noble goal of collecting 300 books; followed by a performance at Sweet Home Jamaica for the 11th Annual Women’s Herstory Month, “Every Woman Can” event, all in an effort to raise funds and promote literacy for the children of Jamaica. She will then be heading to Marcus Garvey Elementary School in Los Angeles, CA on March 28, 2016 to celebrate reading activities with the children.
“I am an Artiste who tries to uplift, encourage and motivate young children to thrive through reading …so education is the key and that’s why I am glad to be representing this project,” said the Multi-Award Winning Artiste who is in her fourth year serving as Musical Ambassador. In 2015 Tasha T was nominated for the second time for “Best Reggae Recording” at the distinguished JUNO Awards and nominated for the “Best International Indigenous Release”, for her “Real Talk” album, making her the first ever Reggae Artiste in the history at the Indigenous Music Awards. “Educate Yourself” which is taken from her Real Talk album has been adopted as the theme song for Read Across Jamaica.
“This is a very important book drive” says Ja’nice Wisdom, Founder of RAJ. “The sponsors are helping to increase access to diverse literature with their contributions, and hence support literacy in Jamaica” she asserts. Members of the diaspora are invited to drop off new and gently used children’s books in support of RAJ’s book drive at either event.
