Following the crowning of Monique Davis as Miss Teen St Thomas, teens in the parish had another chance to showcase their talent in December with the staging of the Miss Teen Port Morant Pageant.

Sixteen-year-old Yanique Laing of Morant Bay High School emerged as the teen with the most poise, taking the crown and the sectional awards for Best Talent and Best Presentation.

Her dramatic talent piece, ‘Abusive Mother’ was well received by the audience, as well as judges, who praised Laing for her original content and delivery.

Fourteen-year-old Sherana Harriot placed second, while Shenelson Forrest, also 14, was third.

The competition, which saw its second staging and was sponsored by R&R Birthday and Service Club, and held on the R&R Auto Parts compound, is aimed at developing confidence, awareness and personality of young women in Port Morant. The contestants attended training sessions to prepare for the finals.

Sponsors came from across the parish and the show was well supported by well-wishers. Proceeds from the pageant will go to renovating several basic schools and other facilities in Port Morant.
