A breaking point for Daniel Sturridge
BREAKING Point, a seven-song EP by singjay Jah Son, is the debut music project from Sturr Class Entertainment, a company owned by Liverpool and England footballer Daniel Sturridge.
The mini-set is scheduled for release in July in Europe. Two songs from it, Cheers to Life (done with Chi Ching Ching) and Cups Up, have been released.
Ruben ‘Jack Ruben’ Smith, artiste and repertoire head of Sturr Class Entertainment, told Splash that Sturridge is committed to unearthing fresh talent through the label which was launched three years ago.
“One thing Sturr Class Entertainment isn’t going to do is sign a roster of artistes just for the sake of signing. We want to deal with one act at a time,” he said in a broad north London accent.
Sturr Class Entertainment is part of the Liverpool striker’s Sturridge Foundation whose primary goal is to uplift impoverished youth through sports and entertainment.
Tomorrow, Sturridge will attend his organisation’s third annual Charity Family Fun Day, Football Tournament and Reggae Concert at Tinson Pen football field in Kingston.
The field is a hop-and-skip from Greenwich Town, the neighbourhood Sturridge’s grandfather was born and raised. His grandmother is from St Thomas.
Twenty-five year-old Sturridge is a key member of Liverpool’s Premier League team. He was born in Birmingham, a city with strong West Indian connections.
His father Michael, also born in Birmingham, played non-league football while his uncles Dean and Simon, played in the Premiership and Championship, respectively.
A concert follows Saturday’s football competition. Sizzla, Bounty Killer, Queen Ifrica, Jah Cure, Popcaan, Spice, Busy Signal, I-Octane, Ishawna, Chi Chi Ching, Vershon, Jah Son, Hot Brain and Save The World, are some of the artistes down to perform.
