Andrew Holness Updates on Progress of Troy Bridge Reconstruction Project

Kingston, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has provided an update on the long-awaited reconstruction of the Troy Bridge, a vital infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity and safety for residents and businesses across Trelawny, Manchester, and St. Elizabeth.

In a statement, Holness acknowledged the years of frustration surrounding the deteriorated bridge and highlighted that the project is now on track after overcoming procurement challenges. “It was a long process due to procurement issues, but finally, we are making progress,” he noted during a recent site visit.

The new bridge is being constructed as a two-lane structure with sidewalks and a reinforced foundation designed to withstand various weather conditions. Once completed, the bridge will facilitate safer transportation, enhance local commerce, and improve the overall quality of life for communities in the surrounding parishes.

Holness emphasized that the project adheres to strict technical, economic, and environmental standards, ensuring its reliability and sustainability. “Projects like these require careful planning. We are making sure this bridge is technically sound, economically viable, and environmentally safe,” he said.

Fully funded through Jamaica’s national budget, the bridge project underscores the government’s commitment to advancing infrastructure development without incurring significant debt. Holness described it as part of a broader mission to demonstrate the tangible impact of responsible economic management in the lives of Jamaican citizens.

The Troy Bridge project represents a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to modernize infrastructure and foster community development, with the promise of long-term benefits for the region.
