It was a sad day on May 11, 1981 when the news filtered to the world  that the king of Reggae had succumbed to cancer in a Miami, USA hospital.

Bob Marley has transformed our musical landscape which has brought great recognition to Jamaica.  Jamaica is known over all corners of the world due to the impact of The Honourable Robert Nesta Marley.

“Emancipate yourself from mental slavery” a saying that was popularized by Bob Marley but originally uttered by The Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jamaica”s first National Hero.

36 Years Old

Bob Marley was only 36 when he was elevated to higher service. During such a relatively short life span he left an enviable legacy of rich music.

“Exodus,”  “No Woman No Cry,” “Redemption Song” and “I Shot the Sheriff” were among some of Bob’s many hits.

Born at Nine Miles, St. Ann Ja. W. I. He was married to Rita Marley an artiste in her own right.

Musical Genius

Bob Marley was known to compose many new songs. His lyrics were very clear and he commented on many social ills.  His music is said to have helped South Africa to dispose of Apartheid. That abominable and racist inhumane practice.

Commentary

Many have long advocated that Bob Nesta Marley should be a National Hero. We hope one day the powers at be will make this happen. It is long overdue.
