An amendment made to Antigua and Barbuda’s labour regulations set the minimum hourly wage at EC$9.
The decision to increase the minimum wage came after the cabinet met with the National Minimum Wage Commission to discuss its recent report on wages and salaries in Antigua and Barbuda.
Currently, minimum wage workers receive EC$8.20 per hour or $328.00 per week for a 40-hour work week.
A note from the cabinet said the commission had proposed that the minimum hourly wage be increased to either $8.90 or $10.
“Following vigorous and lengthy debates in the Cabinet, a decision was taken to move the minimum wage to $9.00 per hour.
