BARBADOS LAUNCHES GLOBAL TOURISM MEDIA AWARDS

International media practitioners have until August 15, 2016 to enter new Barbados Tourism Media Awards

(BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS — July 14, 2016) Travel writers and journalists on the tourism beat in Barbados’ primary source markets are being invited to enter the island’s inaugural Barbados Tourism Media Awards – the jubilee edition.

William Griffith, CEO fo Barbados Tourism Marketing, Inc., confirmed that the awards would form an official part of the tourism entity’s calendar of events to mark Barbados’ 50th anniversary of independence.

“Without a doubt travellers are influenced by stories they see and hear about a destination,” said Griffith. “In acknowledgement of the positive impact this coverage can have on their decision to visit Barbados, we thought it fit to confer awards of excellence to our media partners.”
Awards will be offered in 12 categories including:•So You Know Your Stuff… (Best Feature Article in a Trade Publication)
•Spoken Like a True Bajan! (Best Feature Article in a Consumer Publication)
•Home Drums Beat Loudest/All ah We (Best Feature by a Caribbean-based Journalist in Caribbean media)
•Is that an accent? (Best Feature by Foreign Journalist in Foreign Media)
•Yup! You Told Em’! (Best Story by a Blogger)
•How can this Knot be Love? (Best Story on Romance)
•Golden Pen (Best Story in a Luxury Publication)
•Shaken not Stirred (Epicurean Excellence Media Award)
•#NoFilter (Best Photo in Conjunction with a Feature Article)
•Golden Mic (Best Feature Broadcast)
•Take a Bow! (Best of the Best by the Judges of all Submissions)
•Tourism is our Business/ Let’s Talk Tourism (Best story by a Barbadian Journalist in a Local Publication)

Entries must have been published during the period July 1, 2015 – July 31, 2016 and will only be eligible if they meet the criteria set out in the official rules. Finalists will be invited to join the official awards presentation during the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) State of the Industry Conference (SOTIC), which will be held in Barbados from September 12 – 17, 2016.
