Black Opportunity Fund Launches Groundbreaking Survey to Empower Racialized Communities in Canada

TORONTO, Canada – In a bold initiative to understand and address the systemic barriers faced by racialized communities in Canada, the Black Opportunity Fund (BOF) has launched an ambitious research study titled “Assessing Social Capital.” This first-ever longitudinal survey aims to uncover how social networks contribute to career opportunities and success for racialized individuals, with a particular focus on Black Canadians.

The survey is a collaborative effort involving the Jean Augustine Chair in Education, Community and Diaspora, York University School of Continuing Studies, Coalition of Innovation Leaders Against Racism (CILAR), and York TD Community Engagement Centre. Together, these organizations seek to redefine how social capital is understood, acquired, and sustained within these communities.

The study will gather data on participants’ experiences with educational and job support from their networks and communities. The insights gained will be crucial for informing future government policies and organizational programs designed to support the social mobility of racialized Canadians.

Participants in the study will help shape future policies and programs that address the unique challenges of accessing and leveraging social capital. The survey results will provide essential data to inform culturally relevant supports and help dismantle systemic barriers to social mobility.
