Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown Hosts Governor of Niger State and Nigerian Delegation to Strengthen Trade Ties

Brampton, ON — Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown recently welcomed a distinguished Nigerian delegation to Brampton City Hall, marking a significant step in strengthening trade relations between the City of Brampton and Nigeria. The delegation included the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, and Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

The October 10 meeting focused on fostering stronger economic ties and collaboration with the dynamic and rapidly growing Nigerian Canadian community in Brampton. Mayor Brown highlighted the city’s pride in its diverse population, noting the importance of working with the Nigerian diaspora to facilitate trade and investment opportunities.

“We have a dynamic and growing Nigerian Canadian community in our city,” Brown said. “We are very proud to work with the diaspora on this trade relationship. I have been particularly amazed by the growth of Nollywood productions around the world.”

The visit emphasized exploring opportunities in various sectors, including film production, given the global rise of Nollywood, Nigeria’s film industry. The Governor of Niger State expressed enthusiasm for the possibilities of cultural and economic exchange, praising the Nigerian community’s contributions to Canada’s multicultural fabric.

The meeting also signals the City of Brampton’s commitment to international partnerships, with officials looking to expand collaboration across sectors such as trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange. As the Nigerian Canadian community continues to grow, so does its influence on Brampton’s economy and cultural landscape.

Further discussions are expected to build on this engagement, potentially leading to future trade missions or agreements to support mutual economic growth.
