The Director Of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn is likely smiling today and slept better last night due to this announcement of more staff and stronger legal footing for her office. The DPP has always complained that her hands were tied. Criminals and would be law breakers should have a restless night last night.

Acquittals can now be challenged and any planned assault on the system regarding possible judicial misconduct or jury tampering can be reviewed. There have been a number of high profile acquittals to which the DPP’s hands were tied. She was unable to review possible questionable acquittals. Defense lawyers are not amused. The ground could have shifted under their feet.

Kern Spencer’s controversial acquittal on fraud charges in the celebrated “Light Bulb Scandal”, for example, irked Ms. Paula Llewellyn who stopped short of accusing trial parish judge Ms. Judith Pusey of professional misconduct. The stand off was classic, to say the least. Llewellyn went public with her views. Her tongue was spitting venom. It was a lethal attack on a system she obviously taught was broken.
