Prince Harry has visited South African wildlife park where poachers are active

JOHANNESBURG (AP) _ South African officials say Britain’s Prince Harry has been on a private visit to the country’s flagship wildlife park, which is facing heavy pressure from poachers who are killing rhinos in record numbers.

The national parks service said Thursday that it had provided Harry with “exposure” to its efforts against rhino poaching in Kruger National Park, but said the activities did not include operations against suspected poachers.

The parks service says in a statement emailed to The Associated Press that only rangers and other law enforcement officials are involved in such anti-poaching operations.

Kensington Palace said on June 19 that Harry had ended his army career and would spend three months working on “front-line conservation projects” in southern Africa.
