Commentary

Jamaica and Barbados have not been enjoying the best relationship as sister CARICOM partners.

Sexual Assault

It was on a visit to Barbados, that an intrusive body search at the Airport there that resulted in Ms. Shanique Myrie, a Jamaican, who won a landmark judgment against the Barbados Immigration Department for a disgraceful body cavity search which found nothing illegal but an embarrassing episode to all.

It was in fact sexual assault.

This extremely poor judgment on the part of Barbados Immigration was frowned upon by the Caribbean Court Of Justice (CCJ) which awarded Ms. MYRIE some 4 million US dollars in damages.

To date it is not immediately clear if the lawyers have been paid. A payment to Ms. Myrie is believed to have been made.

We welcome this new Honorary Council, Winston Bayley who hopefully will be like a “Bridge over troubled waters.”

You have work to do Sir … we wish you well. See release attached.
