July 26, 2022 | By Colin O. Jarrett | The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) says it is saddened by the loss of life which occurred on Sunday, when a vessel carrying Haitian migrants capsized off the Bahamian coast.

In a statement Monday, CARICOM said this latest disaster brings to the fore once again the desperate situation in Haiti and the reprehensible nature of the actions of those who are taking advantage of people trying to escape.

Bahamian officials recovered the bodies of 17 Haitian migrants, including a young child.

Twenty-five survivors, including two Bahamian men, were rescued.  The Royal Bahamas Defence Force is searching for more survivors and bodies.
