Celebrating the Caribbean in Durham Region
Ajax Downs hosts the Durham Carifest 2019 Saturday June 15, 2019 11am- 9pm. The Durham Carifest is a family friendly regional must-see event that celebrates and promotes the diversity of the Caribbean in the Durham Region.
Carifest is a cultural explosion that stimulate the senses showcasing the best that the Caribbean has to offer through a variety of mediums to produce a truly extraordinary experience. This one-day family cultural extravaganza is headlined by local and international reggae performer Razor B and Calypso Legend David Rudder. The stage will also showcase Canada’s own all girls’ reggae band Rayzalution, Canadian up and coming soca sensation Miguel Maestre.
The 2019 musical lineup spans diverse genres to include Soca, Reggae as well as music from Spanish Caribbean countries. Helping to keep the day moving and attendees will be entertained by Durham’s King Turbo Sounds with tribute to Reggae icon Buju Banton along with DJ Saint. Festival attendees can also shop the Carifest Marketplace which features an array of vendors with items such as jewellery, hair and body care, fashion. For the kids and the young at heart, the Carifest team in collaboration with Enchanted Castle features a fun-filled Kids Zone with live entertainment and surprise appearance by the one and only King of Wakanda, bring the kids for a day filled with fun and excitement. Test your skills at the three point basketball contest or a game od dominoes.
The food area is of course not to be missed, an array of delicious Caribbean comfort food as well as savoury gourmet treats are sure to satisfy every palate, chase that delicious meal with a unique beer from our local breweries Brock St. and Falcon.
