Black History Month

This Perspective is in support of Reggae Month and Black History Month. Marcus Garvey is a genuine hero.

It was in 1937 Garvey then said:

“Emancipate yourself from mental slavery”

Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey asserted …

Bob Marley then popularized this saying. Many believe that it was uttered by Marley.

There has been a new resolution in the Congress of the United States Of America (USA) on the exoneration of The Right Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jamaica’s first National Hero who was spied on and criminalized by informants who infiltrated his organization and eventually made him a victim of trumped up charges. G. Edgar Hoover, a former US offical labeled Garvey as a dangerous activist. This was a prelude to the Federal Bureau Of Investigation (FBI).  Garvey was targeted, eventually charged and convicted for mail fraud.  Marcus Garvey expressed this deep thought. “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery .” Let it be a rallying call to us all in this Reggae Month and Black History Month.

PA Benjamin & Garvey

A century old Pharmeucutical company in Jamaica which was founded by one Percival Austin Benjamins who in 1870 came up with ideas to use herbal products to form a business. In 1879 he formed Benjamin manufactoring Limited. Originally called Jamaica Healing Oil Factory.  He was in teas, herbs and plant related products. Today this company which started as a herbal medicine company has survived over 100 years … actually 151 years old.  PA Benjamin is now in personal care and sanitation products. They have stayed relevant to changes in the marketplace.

Marcus Mosiah Garvey worked at PA Benjamin for four years from 1905 to 1909.  PA Benjamin has a wide range of products today and has been widely accepted in the marketplace. As you can see the company has a rich history.
