Culture In Motion™ Expands to the Mid-Atlantic, Amplifying Culture Across HBCUs and Community Spaces
Culture In Motion Roadshow Expands Apollo-Inspired Arts and Community Engagement Across the Mid-Atlantic Region
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new national arts initiative is bringing culture, creativity, and community engagement directly to neighborhoods across the Mid-Atlantic. Culture In Motion, a traveling arts and empowerment roadshow founded by cultural architect Kwanza Jones, has officially launched its regional activation across Virginia and Washington, D.C.
The initiative, powered by SUPERCHARGED® and developed in partnership with The Apollo, is designed to expand access to live performance, artistic expression, and youth-centered programming beyond traditional venues.
Spanning cities including Virginia Beach, Hampton, Norfolk, Richmond, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., the roadshow connects communities through shared cultural experiences rooted in Black history and creativity.
Expanding Access to Culture and Creativity
At the core of Culture In Motion is a vision that treats culture as infrastructure—something that can be built, scaled, and delivered directly into communities. Through partnerships with local institutions and Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the program aims to create meaningful opportunities for engagement and creative development.
Participating institutions include Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Howard University, and KIPP DC schools, where students, artists, and community leaders come together through performances, storytelling, and interactive programming inspired by The Apollo’s legacy.
“Culture doesn’t happen alone. It’s shaped and shared together,” said Kwanza Jones, Founder and Executive Producer of Culture In Motion. “We’re here to amplify voices, expand access, and build connections that turn creativity into momentum.”
The SUPERCHARGED Boost Bus Experience
A signature feature of the initiative is the SUPERCHARGED® Boost Bus™, a custom mobile cultural hub that transforms public spaces into interactive venues for live artistic exchange. The bus travels throughout the region, creating accessible opportunities for participation and community connection.
This mobile platform supports the broader mission of building long-term cultural infrastructure while delivering immediate, on-the-ground impact.
A Legacy Beyond Harlem
The collaboration with The Apollo reflects a broader effort to extend the historic institution’s nearly 100-year legacy beyond Harlem and into communities nationwide. By connecting past cultural traditions with contemporary expression, Culture In Motion reinforces the role of Black arts in shaping identity, dialogue, and opportunity.
As the roadshow continues its national journey, the Mid-Atlantic activation highlights how community-based cultural programming can strengthen local ecosystems while inspiring the next generation of creators.
