David Smith Officially Sworn In as MPP for Scarborough Centre

Scarborough, ON – David Smith has officially taken office as the new Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Scarborough Centre. Smith was sworn in on Tuesday, March 19, marking a return to provincial politics for the longtime public servant and community advocate.

“I am proud to be officially sworn in today as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough Centre,” Smith shared on social media following the ceremony. The post was accompanied by messages of congratulations from supporters, community members, and fellow politicians.

Smith’s political career includes previous experience at both the municipal and provincial levels. He previously represented Scarborough Centre at Queen’s Park from 2022 to 2024 and also served on Toronto City Council. His re-election signals a renewed mandate from the riding, which is home to a diverse and growing population, including many from the Caribbean diaspora.

Community leaders have welcomed Smith’s return, citing his deep roots in Scarborough and longstanding commitment to youth empowerment, economic opportunity, and public safety. During his past term, Smith advocated for improved transit access, support for small businesses, and resources for newcomer families.

Scarborough Centre, a key riding in the city’s east end, has gained increasing attention in Ontario politics for its changing demographics and emerging infrastructure needs. Smith has previously highlighted the importance of equitable investment in the region, particularly in housing, healthcare, and education.

His swearing-in comes amid a dynamic political landscape at Queen’s Park, and expectations are high for Smith to deliver on campaign promises and represent the priorities of his constituents.

Smith’s office is expected to release more information in the coming weeks about his legislative agenda and plans for community engagement.
