Decision To Grant No Bid Bypass Mobay Road To Chinese Blasted

May 12, 2021 | Hopeton Oconnor-Dennie |

Local engineers and road building stakeholders have blasted the JLP led Andrew Michael Holness government from not opening up the lucrative bypass road contract in Montego Bay without going through a bidding process.  The government declared that this project is being designated as a National Project. The first of its kind so designated in Jamaica.

Why has the government decided to abandon local engineers?

Qualified

Jamaican engineers are highly qualified and sought after across the world. Without being personal I went to the United States some time ago and when a certain Telephone Company learnt I was visiting … immediately I got an offer to have my work permit and a offer was made to me of a well paying technical job.  So let us not put down local technically qualified folks and say structural engineers and quantity and land surveyors. They are well trained.

Commentary

Let us show more respect and acceptance of our technical people by the powers at be.

The Montego Bay bypass road will be funded by the Jamaican government from local taxes.  This estimated 1.3 Billion dollars cost to build the road without going overseas for funding as was done before.

Let us trust the government to do the right thing. The verdict is yours.
