Forty-four year-old Dickon Mitchell was sworn-in as Prime Minister of Grenada after defeating Dr Keith Mitchell in the parliamentary elections.
The Attorney-at-Law is the leader of the National Democratic Congress, NDC that achieved 9 out of 15 parliamentary seats.
He obtained 52% of the votes. Dr Keith Mitchell, who was running for the 6th election received 47% of the ballots.
A few hours after the election results were announced, leaders from other Caribbean nations began to send their messages of congratulations to the NDC leader.
Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley extended congratulations to Mr Mitchell on his victory.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel congratulated Mr Mitchell on his election as Prime Minister and ratified the will to continue advancing in the development of friendly relations and co-operation between Grenada and Cuba for the benefit of both peoples.
