June 7, 2022 | Colin O. Jarrett | Dominican Republic’s Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources Orlando Jorge Mera was allegedly shot and killed in his office by a close childhood friend.
The 55 year-old Minister; who is the son of former President Salvador Jorge Blanco and brother of vice minister of a former administration, was shot by Miguel Cruz, who has been detained.
Jorge’s son is a lawmaker for the Modern Revolutionary Party of which he is a founding member. No further details were immediately available and it wasn’t immediately clear if Cruz had an attorney.
