Doug Ford Fails To Support Anti-racism Gains in Ontario

June 04, 2020 | By Hopeton O’Connor-Dennie |

We are shocked to learn that the likes of the Premier Doug Ford has been dismantling anti-racism gains made under Kathleen Wynne who he succeeded as Premier.

Funding Cuts

The Anti- Racism Department (ARD) has been abolished under the Conservative led government of Doug Ford. Doug Ford seems to be wearing tinted glasses which blurs his vision.

Vision Newspaper has never failed to highlight its support for the plight of visible minorities and blacks in Ontario and Canada in general. We have always opinionated that ” Racism is an Affront to Decency”. We have long said that Hitler was wrong as there is no super race. Doug Ford is turning his back on blacks and minorities. This is unacceptable.

Carding Is Illegal

It was under former premier Kathleen Wynne that Carding was outlawed and it is now illegal to profile visible minorities by traffic stops.

Time Bomb

The clock is ticking. There is a definite policy of engrained systemic racism in the Canadian society and the people seem to have had enough. Recent data highlighting COVID-19 infection hotspots show that the areas where there is more brown and black people have higher rates of Covid-19 infections.  A time bomb is ticking Premier Doug Ford.

Get Up And Smell The Coffee

Premier Doug Ford must rise up and smell the coffee. The shootings in the streets of Toronto are not a myth. Young disadvantaged unemployed black youths are frustrated. Idle hands lead to increased crime levels. More police and not improving the social conditions is not the solution. You will have to build more prisons. This is just band aid trying to cure cancer. Systemic racism is real not just imagined.

Riots Over Racism

The current riots south of the border in the United States over the murder of unarmed black man George Floyd, can also happen in Canada.  Protest in Montreal turned to looting over the weekend and it is widely expected that protests scheduled for Toronto this coming weekend could turn to the looting of high end retailers downtown Toronto, similar to schenes that played out in the SOHO neighbourhood of New York City and the Melrose community of L.A.  To be warned is to be forearmed Premier Doug Ford. Restore Anti-racism programmes Doug Ford now, before it is too late. Such is your undoing sir.
