A new Prime Minister has been sworn-in in St Kitts and Nevis.  Dr Terrance Drew, the 4th Prime Minister of the twin-island Federation who is Leader of the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, SK-NLP led the party into victory in Friday’s snap general election, having been announced three years earlier than planned.

The SK-NLP won six of the 11 seats with the former coalition partners, the People’s Labour Party, PLP of outgoing Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris winning one seat the same as the People’s Action Movement, PAM.

The Nevis-based Concerned Citizens Action, CCM won all three seats on the sister isle.  Dr Harris lost a no confidence motion filed by his coalition partners earlier this year, prompting the twin-island nation to hold general elections on Friday.

Dr Drew’s party promised improved health care, affordable housing and more access to education.

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has declared tomorrow (Monday August 8) a public holiday in St Kitts and Nevis as part of the celebrations of the victory of his party in the elections on August 5.
