Empowerment Through Civic Engagement: Project Ready Launches National Film Tour
NEWARK, N.J., – In a landmark initiative aimed at elevating the voices of Black women in politics, Project Ready, a non-profit organization dedicated to civic engagement and empowerment, has launched a national tour for the feature film “Dear America, A Letter From Black Women.” This compelling documentary is part of The Dear America Project, a movement designed to mobilize Black women and their allies across the nation to engage in the electoral process.
With the backdrop of a historic presidential race featuring a Black woman as a candidate, the significance of this film resonates deeply. Shennell Barnes-McCloud, CEO of Project Ready, stated, “In this historic moment—when a Black woman is running for president—the story of ‘Dear America’ and the role of Black women in politics is more relevant and important than ever.” She further emphasized that the film not only aims to amplify silenced voices but also serves as a powerful call to action, encouraging community members to participate actively in the democratic process.
The documentary spotlights the untold stories of Black women and their integral role in shaping American political history. Featuring interviews with prominent figures such as Hill Harper, Dr. Martin Luther King III, Andrea Waters King, LaTosha Brown, and Lindsey Granger, the film highlights the diverse experiences of Black women as they advocate for their rights and the future of democracy amidst growing challenges.
As part of the tour, Project Ready aims to secure a pledge to vote from 100,000 Black women across the country, reinforcing the importance of participation in the electoral process.
The “Dear America” film tour will visit various cities, including Chappaqua, NY; Durham, NC; Newark, NJ; Atlanta, GA; Baton Rouge, LA; New Orleans, LA; and Milwaukee, WI, with additional locations to be announced. Interested individuals can RSVP for showings through the project’s official channels.
