“I accidentally shot an unarmed black motorist Daunte Wright.  I drew for my taser but in error pulled my gun and shot the motorist dead instead”

Street Demonstrations

Despite the Chief of Police Tim  Gannon resigning and the resignation of a female Police officer Kim Potter who murdered an unarmed black motorist in a routine traffic stop , unrest and street protests are continuing. Police and National Guards have been called out.

Systemic Racism

Do you believe her story that she did not realize it was her gun in hand and not her taser?  There is no reason to think the female officer is lying, however her actions has proven otherwise.  Her actions is likely racially based which overcame her better judgment. Which is sad given that the role of a Police Officer is to serve and protect the nation. Potter who committed the offence was not being attacked and as such should have acted judicially in carrying out her civic duties.  The feel of a taser is much different from that of a firearm. Police Officers are issued  sturdy weapons and as such should be able to differentiate between the two.

As a twenty year veteran of the force Potter is therefore not a rookie. It is most likely her negative feelings towards the black community that influenced her decision to use such force.

Resigned

We note she has resigned and the Chief of Police has also resigned. We have not heard of any criminal charges against her. What about that development?

Street Protests

George Floyd’s trial is in progress

Despite these resignations protests have continued. This is the same state where the trial for Derek Chauvin who  suffocated an unarmed black man by the name of George Floyd by kneeling on his neck until he died.  Tensions are naturally running high.  This new incident appears to the demonstrators as a cold-blooded murder.  The Black Community is fed up of this type of conduct by the police and the blatant disregard for Black Lives.

Commentary

We hope Officer Kim Potter is arrested and criminally charged soon. We can do better than to have black people being targeted,  with the use of excessive force by a racist police force with the ultimate penalty being paid in the death of our Black brothers and sisters.
