Global Innovators Celebrate Justice, Sustainability, and Technology at International Innovators Awards
Silicon Valley, Calif. – On October 25, 2024, leaders from across the globe gathered for the International Innovators Awards, an event spotlighting remarkable efforts in racial justice, eco-sustainability, and technological innovation. Held under the banner of the International Justice Alliance (IJA), the awards brought together changemakers committed to advancing these crucial areas.
Among the honorees was former California State Controller and current gubernatorial candidate Betty Yee, who affirmed the importance of justice in her address, stating, “We’re here today for justice today, whether it’s climate justice or food justice. We stand for what’s right.” Dr. Bart Fisher, a two-time Nobel Prize nominee, lauded the power of ideas to drive transformation, while former United Nations official Gordon Tapper emphasized the critical need to protect immigrant rights.
Reverend Thomas, representing the NAACP, and Obie Anthony of Exonerated Nation, highlighted the devastating consequences of racist wrongful convictions, drawing attention to cases like Anand Jon. Both called for systemic reforms to prevent such injustices.
The event featured a diverse lineup of speakers and participants, including Vinod Balakrishna, Sukhdev Singh Bainiwal, David Greenwald, Vijay Yesudas, Tracy Young, Sanjana Jon, Raymond Bishop, and Payal Rohatgi. Their collective efforts spanned disciplines, reflecting a shared commitment to creating a more equitable and sustainable world.
Empowering Youth and Advancing Sustainability
Mayor Nancy Young of Tracy, California, and Brian Hofer of Secure Justice focused on empowering minority youth. They highlighted the promising contributions of future leaders like Eza Iqbal, a writer recognized by CBS for her work Words Beyond Worlds.
Inna Braverman, founder of Eco Wave Power, presented plans to expand renewable energy projects to India and Dubai. Meanwhile, Kauna Malgwi, listed among Time Magazine’s Top 100 AI Innovators, advocated for ethical artificial intelligence practices.
California Assemblymember Mia Bonta shared her journey advocating for gender equality and racial justice, while Raymond Bishop, a Hollywood Producers Guild member and former Los Angeles planner, emphasized the necessity of justice reform, declaring, “Building a fair society is more than a vision—it’s a commitment.”
A Platform for Creativity and Collaboration
The event also showcased creativity and cultural expression. San Quentin artists Lamavis Comundoiwilla and Anand Jon auctioned their celebrated works, including Black Madonna and Arise, Awake, Liberate!. Proceeds will support intellectual property rights for marginalized communities through the Poor Man’s Copyright App initiative.
The EcoKnowMix “Sustainability-with-Style” fashion show captivated audiences with designs from ExoVvear, Sanjana Jon, and TheBFly, complemented by performances from America’s Next Stars TV series and music by Indian sensation Vijay Yesudas.
Disney stars Dara Reneé and Elyana Violet joined activists to promote the upcoming H2O Movement docuseries. Aimed at raising awareness about global water sustainability, the project features collaborations with figures like Sangram Singh, Chet Jain, and Bisleri’s George Angelo.
Looking Ahead
As the evening closed, the event highlighted the Changemakers for Good docuseries, documenting the impactful work of innovators striving to build a more inclusive future. Attendees also enjoyed an exotic dinner prepared by Urban Grill and Shubham Halls, featuring Kalifornia Wines and Ayurvedic cuisine.
