Government Intensifies Hurricane Beryl Recovery Efforts in Jamaica’s South Coast

Kingston, Jamaica – In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl’s impact on Jamaica’s south coast, Prime Minister the Most Hon. Andrew Holness has announced intensified efforts to accelerate recovery in severely affected communities. During a recent visit to Rocky Point, Clarendon, the Prime Minister addressed media and outlined the government’s strategy moving forward.

Mr. Holness emphasized the collaborative efforts involving the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), various ministries, and municipal authorities, all coordinated through the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM). These efforts aim to streamline relief operations and restore essential services such as water, electricity, and telecommunications.

“While significant progress has been made in restoring electricity to areas like St. Elizabeth, challenges persist,” stated Mr. Holness. He assured the public that utility providers are working tirelessly to alleviate these issues and enhance service delivery across affected regions.

In addition to service restoration, the Prime Minister highlighted the crucial role of the JDF in maintaining public order and security. “We are committed to ensuring stability and preventing any breakdown in law and order amidst this challenging period,” he affirmed.

Looking ahead, detailed plans for reconstruction efforts were discussed, with a focus on sustainable rebuilding and infrastructure improvement in communities like Portland Cottage and Mitchell Town.
