Happy Mother’s Day

May 9, 2021 | Hopeton O’Connor-Dennie |

As I reflect on what motherhood is, too many never fully understood their role.

It is such an important task to bring up a mentally balanced child.

So many see children as bargaining chips. That is so sad. Parenthood is critical for sound statehood.

Personal

My mother like so many other mothers, was my rock. She believed in me and always told me that I was destined to be a success.

Thank you mamma for what you did for me. You allowed me to be the “wind beneath your wings”. For you,  as her only son, I was everything

Education

You were my first teacher. You taught me Literature, English, to write my first poem and to appreciate what an elegy was. You set me on a literary road for life.

As you are still in my thoughts although elevated to the heavenly university of spirituality let me never forget your earthly segasity.

May all continue to honour and respect the roles played by their mothers, whether biological or otherwise.

They were never expected to be perfect.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Hopeton O’Connor-Dennie is a veteran journalist who still adores his mother even as she has passed.
