US-Based Record Producer Heather Virgo Sponsors Jamaican Students to Resit CSEC Mathematics Exam
Kingston, Jamaica – Jamaican-born, US-based record producer Heather Virgo is sponsoring five students to resit the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) mathematics examination. One student, who received a grade four, has already collected the funds, and the others will receive theirs by the end of the month.
This comes in light of recent reports showing that only 36% of students across the Caribbean passed the mathematics exam with acceptable grades (1 to III). These grades are crucial for job qualification and advancing to higher education.
Heather Virgo, CEO of Hit Melody Records, emphasized the importance of addressing this issue. She said that mathematics is vital in everyday life and called for more community involvement in supporting students’ educational journeys. Virgo encouraged others to assist through community organizations, noting that these groups could manage both the financial aid and students’ progress.
Virgo added that preparation, including educational marathons, should receive more focus to improve outcomes. She believes that education is a collective responsibility, extending beyond just schools to parents, churches, and the broader community.
Virgo, who has produced two riddim-driven projects, The Ionie and The Edition, continues to merge her passion for music with her commitment to uplifting the youth.
