Hon. Kamina J. Smith Celebrates Historic Opening of Jamaica Marg in New Delhi

New Delhi, India — In a momentous occasion, Hon. Kamina J. Smith joined Prime Minister Andrew Holness in inaugurating the newly named Jamaica Marg (Jamaica Road) in New Delhi Monday. The event marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic relationship between Jamaica and India, symbolizing the deepening friendship and collaboration between the two nations.

Taking to social media, Smith expressed her gratitude, stating, “What an honour to join PM @AndrewHolnessJM in opening the newly named Jamaica Marg today in New Delhi. A historic moment and deep symbol of the friendship between our countries.” She extended her thanks to the Ministry of External Affairs of India and the Municipal Council of New Delhi for their efforts in facilitating this initiative.

This inauguration is particularly meaningful as it reciprocates Jamaica’s gesture of naming a street after Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, a pivotal figure in India’s history and a champion of social justice, during the visit of former President of India, Sri Ram Nath Kovind, to Kingston.

Smith acknowledged the coordination efforts of High Commissioner Hall, expressing appreciation for the smooth execution of the event. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of both nations to foster strong ties and celebrate their shared values.

As Jamaica Marg opens its gates, it stands not only as a road but also as a testament to the enduring bond of friendship between Jamaica and India, promising a future filled with cooperation and mutual respect.
