More than 1,000 residents were rescued across Puerto Rico, while mudslides swept across the Dominican Republic.  The storm is expected to strengthen as it heads to Turks and Caicos Islands on Tuesday.

On Monday night, Puerto Rico was again plunged into darkness, five years after Hurricane Maria inflicted more damage on the island than any other disaster in recent history.  At 11 o’clock last night, the centre of Hurricane Fiona was located near latitude 20.1 degrees North, longitude 69.8 degrees West.

Fiona is moving toward the northwest near 17km/h.  This general motion will be followed by a turn toward the north-northwest on Tuesday and to the north on Wednesday.  On the forecast track, the centre of Fiona will pass near or to the east of the Turks and Caicos Islands on Tuesday.
