Jamaican Health Minister Christopher Tufton is seeking to administer some 700,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines by the end of September, in pursuit of the target to have 65% of the Jamaican population vaccinated by March 2022. The resumption of vaccinations, follow a week-long vaccination blitz that saw more than 63,000 Jamaicans vaccinated. This brings the total number of vaccinations to approximately 374,000. Of that number 240,696 are first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, 131,632 are second doses and 885 are single doses of the Johnson Johnson single-dose vaccine.
Dr. Tufton spoke at a virtual press conference (August 9), he stated “The country remains on track to receiving 1.4 million doses of vaccines up to the end of September. We are already in receipt of the 300,000 (from the UK) and we are expecting another shipment of vaccines by this end of this week. We are anticipating receiving over 470,000 doses in August and another 420,000 doses in September.”
