KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) _ Authorities say an off-duty police officer in Jamaica has been fatally shot while fishing with his brother.

The brother was wounded in the attack by gunmen.

A late Saturday statement from the head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force identified the slain officer as Constable Collin Raynor. He had been stationed in Linstead in the southern parish of St. Catherine.

Commissioner Carl Williams says Raynor was attacked while he and his brother were fishing at a pond in the gang-troubled city of Spanish Town. There have been no arrests.

Williams says police intelligence indicates “that criminals armed with guns are targeting our members on and off the job.”

Police did not immediately provide any statistics showing how many officers have been shot in recent years.
