KINGSTON, Jamaica _ A Jamaican policeman facing a murder charge has been arrested at an island airport.

The Independent Commission of Investigations probes allegations against Jamaica‘s security forces. It has identified the arrested law enforcer as Constable Whitney Hutchinson, who is attached to the May Pen police division in central Jamaica.

Investigators arrested him late Wednesday at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.

The commission earlier this year levied murder charges against eight other officers in the same police division in an unprecedented probe.

Hutchinson is charged in the 2011 killing of a suspected gang member who was accused of threatening a judge. Police said the suspect was killed in a shootout.

The officer’s initial court hearing is Friday. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
