Jamaican PM Andrew Holness Encourage all Jamaicans to Follow the Protocols and Get vaccinated

January 25, 2022 | Vision Newspaper |

“From as far back as November 2021, I had indicated that we would commence a gradual and controlled process of getting our economy back to full productive capacity and to give all Jamaicans the opportunity to earn their livelihoods while protecting their health.

After nearly two years of this, citizens are well aware of the protocols and what they need to follow to protect themselves.

The measures that we have in place essentially serve as guard rails.

Barring any unforeseen extreme circumstances, the Government’s strategy is to gradually widen the guard rails to allow more economic activity as the 4th wave subsides, while at the same time saving lives and not allowing our health system to be overwhelmed.

There is a narrative that the Government has given up on COVID and abandoned the measures. That is absolutely not the case.

I encourage all Jamaicans to follow the protocols and if you have not yet been vaccinated, do so as soon as possible, to keep yourselves, your families and loved ones safe.

All the measures – the curfew, the restrictions on gatherings, the requirement to wear a mask (particularly in indoor spaces), to maintain physical distance – all remain in place.

We have not however further tightened the measures as we know that would have a significant adverse impact on the economy and livelihoods of Jamaicans.

The curfew hours will remain 10 pm nightly to 5 am the following morning, until 5 am on February 11, 2022. All the other measures will also remain unchanged.”
