JOHN LEGEND PLAYS BAHRAIN

MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) _ Activists in Bahrain wanted John Legend to boycott a festival there. Legend says the best way to address change is to be part of the conversation. Legend performed last night at the Spring of Culture festival in the capital of Manama (mah-NAH’-mah) for a sold-out crowd of more than two-thousand Before performing the song “Glory,” Legend said they may see him as a superstar, but he’s also the descendant of slaves, and they fought for change. Some activists called for Legend to cancel his appearance because of concerns of human rights abuses in Bahrain. Legend did not address the issues directly, but he did say he was at the festival “to celebrate art and its power to bring us together and help us see each other’s humanity.”
